Fan Bar Guide

logo bar guide flat largeDespite its smaller size, Richmond has an unusually large and attractive bar scene.  No matter who you are, what you like, or what you’re in the mood for, there’s a bar somewhere in the city that can cater to your every need.  While this seems like a very positive thing for the city of Richmond and every single one of its alcohol-loving residents, there are downsides as well. Believe us, it can be extremely frustrating attempting to navigate the endless list of bars and actually choose which one has the best specials.

Luckily, OMGWTFRVA is here to help.  We have compiled an unofficial “Fan Bar Guide,” which includes just about every bar between Boulevard and Belvidere and any happy hour or other drinking specials they have during the week.  If you don’t see your favorite bar on this list, it means it’s time for you to start drinking somewhere new. Immediately.

The Bar Guide is organized in alphabetical order.  If you’re feeling lucky, you can download the full guide as a PDF HERE.  It’s sexier that way.

You forgot Empire, but put Chili’s on there?!

    • July 20, 2009

We didn’t FORGET Empire… The list isn’t exhaustive, and we’re not finished compiling it :-)

I’m going to regret putting Chili’s on there for the rest of my life. But I figured I’d please the masses and they do have cheap margaritas… : ( Also, Chad, get a friggin GRAVATAR already.

Yes, definitnely needs Empire. Also Sidewalk [awesome bartenders and MANY great black-out evenings] and The Village [pitchers of beer for days!].

I’ve had fun at Racine, too. A pox on Buddy’s, but if you’re gonna have them, you might as well add Curbside and Commercial Taphouse [the latter of which I have heard okay things about...].

Bamboo Café kind of weirds me out, but you can’t ignore the phenomenon of somehow getting shithoused there off of three drinks ALL THE TIME. Bizarre.

Gus’s is new, and I haven’t been there yet. It occupies the old Out of Bounds space at Broad & Robinson.

Again, we’re working on it! The rampant alcoholism in this town is beautiful, but give us a week!

Is this a Fan bar guide, or a Richmond one? Just curious, cause the title says fan but the intro makes it sound like all of rva.

If it’s Richmond, I’d like to submit Poe’s Pub, cause it makes some strong ass cocktails, has solid happy hour specials, and is the perfect cross between a celtic pub and a southern dive bar. Good place to get really drunk.

If it’s just for the fan…um, nevermind :)

So far we’re only focusing on bars in the Fan as a starting point. However, we do intend to expand on that and cover the rest of the city!

I do enjoy Poe’s Pub, though!

kudos on the compilation of bar specials, I’ve been waiting years for this sort of thing, being too lazy to compile one myself and too forgetful to remember where to go when.

Not from the area, does anyone know if Avalon has happy hour on the weekends?

Racine is the cheapest in all of town, the employees hook it up too.
